A History of Carpet Tiles and Carpet Squares

In the early 1900s America, an entirely new method of producing carpet was invented named tufted carpet. This method was based on the technique used to make candlewick bedspreads where tufts were inserted into it a piece of pre-woven. In 1940 this new method of carpet making was used to produce broadloom carpet.

In more recent times, modern technology enabled great progress in yarn construction and the development in modern plant and machinery. These technological advances provided the means necessary to develop more sophisticated products to enhance the comfort of your home.

For commercial carpet applications it was necessary to design a floor covering which could be easily transported to locations such as high-rise office blocks. To meet the portability needs of commercial applications in the 1960s the first carpet tiles were produced. Currently, commercial carpet tiles and residential carpet tiles are used for almost every kind carpeting application.
